Gear processing technology

Author:

The processing technology of gears includes the following processes: gear blank processing, tooth surface processing, heat treatment process, and finishing of the tooth surface. 1. The gear blanks are mainly forged parts, bars, or castings, with forged parts being the most commonly used. The blanks are first subjected to normalizing treatment to improve their machinability, making cutting easier; then rough machining is performed according to the gear design requirements, shaping the blank into a rough form while leaving a significant amount of excess material. 2. Next, semi-finishing is carried out, including turning, rolling, and tooth insertion, to basically form the gear; after that, the gear undergoes heat treatment to improve its mechanical properties. Depending on the usage requirements and the materials used, this may include quenching and carburizing.

1. The gear blank is mainly made of forgings, bars, or castings, with forgings being the most commonly used. The blank is first subjected to normalizing treatment to improve its machinability, making it easier to cut; then rough machining is performed according to the design requirements of the gear, shaping the blank into a rough form while leaving a considerable allowance.
2. Next, semi-finishing is carried out, including turning, rolling, and hobbing, to form the basic shape of the gear; after that, the gear undergoes heat treatment to improve its mechanical properties. Depending on the usage requirements and the materials used, processes such as quenching after tempering, carburizing, and high-frequency induction hardening of the tooth surface may be applied; finally, the gear is finished, refining the reference and machining the tooth profile.
